BA History of Art Undergraduate FAQs

  • Can History of Art be studied with another course, as a joint degree?

No, this is not possible.  The BA History of Art course is only offered as a single honours degree.

  • Which other qualifications are accepted as an alternative to A-levels?

This information can be found on the University website.  Click here. For further information on qualifications, please email the Undergraduate Admissions Office: [email protected]

  • Is the Undergraduate Certificate in History of Art offered by Continuing Education accepted as a qualification?

Yes, but applicants would be expected to achieve a final result of a good 2:1 at the very least.  To note that prospective applicants with this qualification would not, however, be able to apply for direct entry to the Second Year of the BA degree.

  • Can mature students apply?

Yes. All colleges that offer History of Art accept mature students (21 years and over), but Harris Manchester College is specifically for mature students.  See: http://www.hmc.ox.ac.uk/

  • As a mature candidate, what should I do about submitting marked written work if I don't have any?

Mature and home-tutored students unable to submit a marked course essay are permitted to submit an unmarked essay written specifically for the application, on any subject and up to the word limit, accompanied by an explanatory note on the cover sheet.
